Top Gun: Maverick

After more than 30 years, we’re finally getting a sequel to Top Gun! There isn’t much known about the picture aside from the fact that Miles Teller has been cast as Goose’s son and Val Kilmer has returned as Iceman. And, as the video teases, Tom Cruise will be riding motorcycles, playing volleyball, and flying planes like a crazy once more.

Jurassic World Dominion

Though the plot of this trilogy-capper is being kept under wraps, it’s reasonable to presume it will deal with the implications of Lost Kingdom, as Jeff Goldblum concluded the last chapter of the Jurassic franchise by saying that humanity would have to learn to coexist with dinosaurs. Original stars Laura Dern and Sam Neill, as well as Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Chris Pratt, are all returning.

Lightyear

Although the Toy Story franchise has presumably come to an end, Pixar claims that there is still more pleasure to be had with these characters… only in a different way. Chris Evans, fresh off his turn as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play the “actual” Buzz Lightyear, the astronaut who inspired the action figure voiced by Tim Allen, in a prequel that will investigate how he became so renowned that he was made into a toy.

Elvis

This biography about the connection between a teenage Elvis Presley and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, is directed by Baz Luhrmann. Austin Butler landed the lead part after a lengthy casting process, and he’ll be paired with Tom Hanks, who was the first major celebrity to reveal he tested positive for COVID-19 while filming the movie in Australia.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

The minions were last seen causing mayhem in 1960s England before meeting up with a young Gru. Perhaps their next experience with him will be their first. Expect the yellow ones, voiced by Pierre Coffin, to get up to whatever mischief they got up to in Minions 3 and Minions 4 and so on: the original Minions film grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide, making the Despicable Me franchise the highest-grossing animated franchise of all time.

Thor: Love and Thunder

The highly awaited follow-up to Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, which reimagined the character to the delight of critics and audiences alike, is Marvel’s second picture of 2022. Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, will return to the franchise, and it’s been hinted that she’ll use Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, at some point. Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will also return, and Thor will team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. So, you know, everything is OK.

Nope

Jordan Peele has been extremely busy since the box office success of Get Out and Us, but he is finally getting around to making his third feature. We don’t know much about the movie yet, but the first trailer teases that it will be set somewhere in the American Southwest and will revolve around a small hamlet whose citizens witness a strange event in the skies above.

The Gray Man

This action thriller, based on the 2009 novel of the same name, stars Ryan Gosling as a CIA mercenary who is forced to flee when he finds some ugly truths about his organization and is pursued by a rival agent (played by Chris Evans). The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame), with Ana de Armas, Billy Bob Thornton, and Jessica Henwick among the supporting characters.

Bullet Train

This humorous, stylish action thriller, based on a novel by Japanese writer Ktar Isaka, follows an assassin (Brad Pitt) who is charged with retrieving a mystery briefcase aboard, well, a bullet train full of other assassins looking to do the same. The movie stars an all-star cast and is directed by David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2)
